The story behind the photograph

Who doesn’t love daisies?! This is one of our favorite hikes in Summit County, Colorado, which we occasionally visit and take the easy lower lake loop where we sometimes poke around for fish. One trip we hit the jackpot on feeding brookies in the headwaters and we accessed them w/out wading… the first time actually, but not so much since. We have seen them feeding and there are fish to be had, but we’ll have to wader up!”

A dense stand of oxeye daisies fills a mountain meadow in midsummer, one tall bloom rising clear of the crowd against a conifer-covered ridge. Afternoon sun breaks between cumulus, lighting the white ray petals and yellow centres while the far slope falls into shadow. A small insect works one of the lower flowers near the bottom of the frame.
