Gem Lake in Rocky Mountain National Park, Colorado. A still subalpine pond holds the reflection of conifers, layered granite outcrops and a distant peak, its surface broken only by weathered driftwood stumps rising near the shore. Soft overcast light flattens the water into a mirror, so sky and shoreline meet without a seam. Summer grasses fringe the banks in fresh green against the grey, split rock.

The photograph that inspired this piece

Where the Water Stills

It begins with an original photograph by Alan Murakami of a real place. This version was developed from that photograph in our studio, using digital and AI tools guided by the original’s own composition, with no words set on it. How these are made.
