A weathered summit cross, its shaft marked with stickers and scratched graffiti and its centre set with an ironwork rosette, rises from the lower left corner into an unbroken depth of blue. Behind it stand rounded conglomerate pinnacles fringed with scrub, their gullies dark against sunlit stone. Hard high sun rakes the rock from the left and leaves the metal of the cross in flat silhouette, while the sky deepens from pale haze at the ridgeline to near-ultramarine overhead.
Why these words
The whole frame is organised around a single weathered cross leaning over bare limestone, with nothing else raised against the sky; the verse names that one thing as the only thing worth boasting in.

The photograph that inspired this piece
It begins with an original photograph by Tom Bartel of a real place. This version was developed from that photograph in our studio, using digital and AI tools guided by the original’s own composition, and these words set over the finished picture. How these are made.
