The story behind the photograph

My daughter went to school in Oregon, and for the many trips out and back through her career, Twin Falls, Idaho is the functional halfway point for us. Entering Twin Falls, the majestic Perrine Bridge spans the canyon nearly 500 feet above the Snake River near the site of famous daredevil Evel Knievel’s unsuccessful 1974 jump across the canyon. For us this was a regular quick stop on our way in and out on these trips, for me, hopeful for a sunrise or sunset memory.”

The sun sits on the rim of a low mesa, its disc still whole and burning white at the centre of a halo that bleeds orange across the lower sky. Cirrus streaks fan outward overhead, catching pink and coral light where they cross the last of the blue. The land itself is reduced to a flat silhouette, broken only by the bluff edge and two distant poles on the horizon.
